Atopic Dermatitis – American Cities to Avoid

According to skin specialists, the number of people affected with skin issues is more than five million in the last two years. And this number is quiet on the rise, given the increasing level of pollutants in the environment around us.

While there are a few measures that one can take to ensure they are not affected by the known allergens or man-made causes, there are ones that are beyond our control and are largely dependent on the environment we live in. On that note, below is a list of the worst cities to live in with atopic dermatitis and eczema.

1. San Antonio
This city in South Central of Texas is listed at 610 on the Allergen Sensitization Index. It is well-known to contain high amounts of house dust mites and ragweed pollen. The quality of the air is compromised, given the higher pollen count and close to 17% of the total population that lives in the area have reported being allergic or sensitive to ragweed pollen. Another 23% of the total population in the area has been noted to have sensitivities to house mites.

2. Sacramento
This city is very famously referred to as the city of trees and this in itself is indicative of the fact that it is a city whose air is polluted with high levels of pollen count. There have been reports that have shown the city to have about 7.3-9.6 ranges of pollen count out of 12. This is the worst allergen if you have issues such as atopic dermatitis or eczema.

3. Orlando
This is one of the top five cities that has the highest amount of recorded allergies due to house dust mites. Close to 29% of the total population has reported about being sensitive to the mite issues. On the other hand, February to April and August to October contain high amounts of mold spores. The climate of the Orlando region is primarily humid and therefore a contributing factor towards the production of allergens.

4. Las Vegas
This is another city in the southwest that features on the top 5 worst cities with highest rates of allergies sensitization. The major contributor to the allergies is animal related allergens and close to 22% of the population is known to be sensitive to this.

This list above is based on an evaluation of factors such as pollution, climate, high contributors to skin issues, and smoking out of the 150 major cities in the country. Based on each of the categories, a total of 17 metrics were evaluated by expert analysts to derive this listing of the worst cities. Some of the other cities that follow on this list are – Seattle, Houston, Kansas City, Denver, Cape Coral, St. Petersburg, Shreveport, Akron, and Port St. Lucie.
