Tips to Set-up a Home Gym
Having a simple yet functional gym in your own home is the first step to taking your health seriously and living a happy life. The advantages of setting up a home gym include saving money, saving time, increased convenience, and customizable space. Overall, your gym is your own space of wellness and motivation to build a better version of yourself. Here some pointers on how to set up a home gym.
1. Pad the floor and walls
Pad the floor and walls of the gym room to make it conducive for the gym equipment. A floor mat is an essential item that absorbs the shock of the weights. You will thank yourself for having padded your entire room if an unforeseen accident occurs. The entire walls and floors do not have to be padded. You only need to pad the exercise area.
2. Customize your space for motivation
A gym with weights, equipment, and padding is not enough. You can customize your space with a few pictures of your idol or motivational quotes so that you do not lose focus. It can be anything as it is your space. Customizing also includes water bottles, towels, mops, room sprays, and music to add to the ambiance and keep up motivation. Keeping yourself hydrated through workouts will go a long way to help you achieve your targets. You will need spare towels to wipe sweat and mops to wipe the floor to avoid slips. Room sprays to remove the sweat odor and keep you in a pleasant state of mind. You can also set up speakers, as they are better than putting on headphones. This way, you will not miss out on doorbells or calls from your dear ones at home.
3. Add a bodyweight training section
Just like your body progressively builds up muscles, adds to your strength, and burns fat, you have to progressively add to your training equipment. You do not need every state-of-the-art equipment in one go. Getting bodyweight equipment to support yourself is enough for the first few months of workout. This equipment includes dip bars, chin-up bars, stability balls, jump rope, and resistance bands. These are excellent accessories to give you a head start. Once you are comfortable with bodyweight training, you can shop for free weights and other equipment. Furthermore, you can add various sections to your home gyms, such as cardio, kettlebell station, and a squat rack.
4. Progressing towards intermediate and advanced equipment
Once you are sure that bodyweight training is not enough to pump your muscle, you can start looking for a squat rack or state-of-the-art all in one training rack. The latter not only helps you save space but also allows you to perform various exercises, such as weighted squats, deadlift, bench press, chin-ups, and dips.
